From Horses to Contracts: how I grow my business

Obi and I getting readyHelp me Obi-Wan Kenobi you’re my only hope.

Recently I realized building a business is like developing a dressage horse.  First you need to identify what skills you have established, what you are capable of working on to maintain and develop on your own and what you need to develop to take your team to the next level.

The big challenge is being honest with yourself about what you truly offer and what you need to develop. In dressage, there are clinicians I have worked with over the years that I truly value their opinion and trust their feedback. I have learned from example in the business world but I’m now starting to realize that I need help to take my business to the next level.

It has taken me over six months to work with my new horse (Obi Wan Kenobi) to develop an understanding of what we have to offer and what we need to work on.  In business this is the beginnings of a strategic plan. Now I will work to develop short-term goals to be accomplished in 3-6 months, medium term goals 9-12 months and long-term 1-3 years.

I could develop this all on my own or I could ask for help and learn through the experience likely coming across information I would not have thought of on my own.

So just as I am excited to see where my dressage horse and I will end up in our training and show career in the next year. I will use the analogy to help inspire me develop my company.

What are your inspirations for personal and professional growth?  First show 2
